Volkswagens
Cantankerous, pesky bugs
they should be squashed underfoot
or have insecticide sprayed on them
Running Whitewater
Can-opener boulders
try to pierce our beer-can canoe
maelstrom mouths open
and try to eat the paddles
buzzards wait patiently
cursing quietly
our survival
Returning
the eternal river
and the eternal canoer
make love in the squalid
primordial mud pool
each impregnating each
with the salts of common ancestry
