If genius is something you don’t possess but which is something that possesses you, then contemporary artist Eric McRay of Raleigh definitely qualifies as an artistic genius.

Eric of old soul, kind heart and blessed vision

Eric McRay's Painting Trumpet Player (19K)

uses his art not to create a space for himself within his universe but to expand the universe of the healing touch of the gentle hand of God. When you shake his hand and look him dead in the eye, you feel a genuine warmth of generosity of spirit that will last you for days. When you look at, I mean really stop and not just look at but allow yourself to be brought into one of his paintings, the way that it will probably touch your most inner psyche will bring you back to him and his work again and again.

All artists have egos, they’re kinda’ necessary to be a creative person like Eric is, but if he has one it isn’t much of one. Rather than motivations of fame or money or competition, his vision is driven by his inner familyhood with God, his relationship with God being the most important thing in his life.

As with Bach whose every single note of music was an act of humble prayer and every day was cause for rejoicing, with Eric every single brush stroke is a renewal of his relationship with Him and every painting one more step in his path along the way to be closer to Father.

Besides that, Eric’s just a damn good artist! EricMcRay1Sm (18K) His techniques of creation are quite ordinary but his results are quite extraordinary. Don’t worry if you’re an atheist or animist or Zoroastrian, he doesn’t wear his beliefs on his sleeve, preferring to use his unique talents as witness. What matters to him is not that God sometimes uses his art to touch people, but that his paintings touch people’s hearts.

You can find him usually in his studio at Artspace in Raleigh, Studio #205 at 201 East Davie Street, Raleigh NC 27601, studio phone 919-838-0755 , and please do visit his website    www.mcraystudio.com    to see more of his very talented work.
